Located where the piedmont hills meet the scenic Blue Ridge mountains, The Ridge at South Mountain lies in an “isothermal belt:"  a unique region where warm air becomes “trapped” between higher and lower layers of colder air, resulting in a climate that is often milder than not only other mountainous areas, but even those in neighboring lower elevations.

The result is that, while all of western North Carolina enjoys four distinct seasons, Rutherford County’s weather is typically warmer in winter and cooler in summer than that of the surrounding areas.  Consequently, spring arrives sooner, autumn foliage retains its gorgeous color longer, and winter produces less snow and ice here.
