Subdivision. The Ridge at South Mountain is a private, gated community. Subdivision roads are 18-feet-wide (cul-de-sac roads) or 20-feet-wide (collector roads) and will be paved according to North Carolina Department of Transportation standards.

Utilities. Living in the mountains doesn’t mean living without modern conveniences. High-speed DSL internet service is available from Bellsouth,
and DirecTV and Dish Network offer satellite television.

Public water, unusual for a mountain development, is provided to The Ridge at South Mountain by the Town of Forest City.  There is no need to pay for the expense and live with the uncertainty of a private well on your property. Additionally, all lots will be within 500 feet of a fire hydrant offering fire protection and maximum homeowner's insurance discounts.
Sewer is through individual septic tanks.

Electricity is provided through Rutherford Electric.

The county’s recycling and convenience center is within one mile of the subdivision, for garbage and recycling disposal.

Heath Care and Emergency Services. The Golden Valley Volunteer Fire Department and a first responder ambulatory service are adjacent to the main entrance to the subdivision.  “911” service established.

Rutherford Hospital, a 143-bed acute care facility complete with a recently renovated Intensive Care Unit and a new obstetrical and nursery wing, is a mere 15 miles from the subdivision.  Regional facilities include Mission Hospitals in Asheville, Bowman Grey Hospital and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Duke University Hospital in Durham, and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Rutherford County is home to hundreds of physicians whose specialties include pediatrics, family physicians, internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and plastic surgery, to name a few.  And there is no shortage of other medical and health professionals, including dentists, chiropractors, midwives, physical therapists, massage therapists, and many more.
